From Friday, December 19, 2025, through Sunday, January 25, 2026, Hosono Record House, a limited-time pop-up store bringing together a wide-ranging selection of Haruomi Hosono’s records, will open in Jimbocho, Tokyo.

The project will feature a diverse selection of works that Hosono has been involved with over the course of his long career, with a particular focus on eight releases spanning from FLYING SAUCER 1947 (2007) to Music for Films 2020–2021 (2021). Through these works, the pop-up offers a multifaceted look at Haruomi Hosono as an artist whose creative practice continues to evolve today.

This exhibition spotlights a total of eight titles released between 2007’s FLYING SAUCER 1947 and 2021’s Music for Films 2020–2021. Through his devotion to country and roots music, the self-cover album HOCHONO HOUSE, his musical contributions to films including Shoplifters, and America / Hosono Haruomi Live in US 2019 (capturing his US live performances), the exhibition traces the trajectory of his recent creative work as it expands across song, roots music, and film scoring.

Furthermore, for this exhibition, a new in-depth interview looking back on these eight titles has been conducted, and a booklet featuring its contents will be available for purchase at the venue. Covering the key concepts behind each work as well as episodes from the time of its creation, this booklet offers insight into Hosono Haruomi’s thinking and perspective that the recordings alone cannot fully convey.

The venue will center around the following eight works, offering visitors the chance to fully savor both the appeal of each work and the unique sound quality that only analog can provide.

In addition to these recent works, the lineup will also include analog and CD titles from throughout Hosono Haruomi’s career. Come experience the “Record House,” where you can immerse yourself—through both sound and physical object—in the stories that unfold from a single record and in the ever-evolving world of Hosono Haruomi that has continued to renew itself over the years.

Additionally, to coincide with this exhibition, the digital museum “HOSONO MANDALA” (https://hosonoharuomi.jp) will have a pre-launch opening. While its official launch is planned for around summer 2026, this pre-launch offers visitors the opportunity to experience a glimpse of Hosono Haruomi’s vast body of work online, alongside the analog experience at the venue.

This pop-up store in Jimbocho, open over the New Year’s holiday season, invites you to flip through records and rediscover Hosono Haruomi’s music with fresh, present-day sensibilities. We hope you’ll come and see it for yourself.

HARUOMI HOSONO

HARUOMI HOSONO Born 1947 in Tokyo Japan, a founding member of both the influential folk rock act Happy End and the pioneering electronic trio, Yellow Magic Orchestra. Haruomi, or Harry Hosono has also released a number of solo albums in his five decade career. His work spans many styles that effortlessly fuse exotica, funk, country, electronic, ambient, and everything in-between, with projects also including film soundtracks and production duties for other artists.
